Es soll das quelloffene Model Context Protocol umsetzen und KI-Modelle in Cloud-Umgebungen mit Datenquellen und externen Tools verbinden. Auf Grundlage dieser Interaktion lassen sich KI-Agenten entwickeln. Hinter dem MCP Gateway steckt das Projekt kgateway, eine native Implementierung eines API-Gateways in Kubernetes. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Art Ingress-Controller für die Container-Orchestrierungsplattform. Anzeige Silo.io übergibt kagent an Open-Source-Stiftung Weiterhin steht das MCP Gateway unter der Schirmherrschaft der Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), die einen zunehmenden Bedarf an Zertifikaten für Cloud-Native-Kurse verzeichnete. Ebenfalls übergab Solo.io das Open-Source-Framework für KI-Agenten kagent an die CNCF. Es soll die Nutzung autonomer KI-Agenten bei der Automatisierung von Arbeitsprozessen erleichtern und besteht aus drei Komponenten. Einerseits umfasst das Framework die Agenten selbst, die Daten analysieren, Entscheidungen treffen und Aufgaben ausführen oder anstoßen. Eingebaute Werkzeuge bilden die zweite Komponente. Sie zeigen etwa Log-Dateien, Pods oder Metriken an, müssen dazu aber dem MCP-Standard folgen. Die dritte Komponente ist eine Programmierschnittstelle für den Bau und Start der KI-Agenten. Sie basiert auf dem ebenfalls quelloffenen Framework Microsoft AutoGen. KI-Agent soll Programme aus Spracheingabe bauen Wie Solo.io-Gründerin und CEO Idit Levine im Gespräch mit iX erzählte, seien kagent und das MCG Gateway nur erste Schritte auf dem Weg zu einem größeren Ziel. Sie möchte, dass Anwender künftig die zu erledigenden Aufgaben einer Software in natürlicher Sprache definieren und ein KI-Agent daraus ein funktionierendes Programm baut. Zwar steckten dahinter bekannte Werkzeuge wie Entwicklungsumgebung, Versionskontrolle und Compiler, jedoch müsse der KI-Agent die ursprüngliche Spracheingabe verstehen, eventuell nachfragen und in Code überführen. Außerdem müsse der KI-Agent die passende Programmiersprache für die Software auswählen, und die notwendigen Tests der Funktionalität sowie die Qualitätssicherung durchführen. Bislang übernehmen Menschen diese Aufgaben. Bald solle KI diese Tätigkeiten nahezu vollständig ausüben können.
