How Chattanooga Helped This UK Smart Cities Startup Gain An Edge In The US Market After going through Chattanooga’s Sustainable Mobility Accelerator , a program launched by The Company Lab (CO.LAB) and gener8tor , Essex, England-based Terminus Technologies is ready to expand its footprint in the US. Terminus Technologies’ CEO Joshua Ward told Hypepotamus that the smart cities and urban data mining startup has plans to move its headquarters fully to the United States in order to be closer to its core customer base. The plan is to have around 10 US-based Terminus employees on the ground by the end of this year. While Terminus is moving its headquarters to Indianapolis, Indiana, the Southeast region played an important role in bringing the British company to the United States. Ward said that the sustainability-focused accelerator in Tennessee helped Terminus refine its product offerings and find customer pilot programs. Joshua Ward (LinkedIn) “Chattanooga impressed us with its commitment to becoming a smart city technology hub. The startup ecosystem is dynamic and forward-thinking, with genuine support for innovative technology companies like ours from both the private and public sector,” Ward added. As Terminus expands into the US, he added that the team will look at adding a secondary office building in Atlanta or Chattanooga. “The US startup ecosystem is incredibly supportive, and we’ve found exceptional opportunities for growth, particularly in the smart cities technology sector. We have had amazing traction in the US thus far and expect to continue this momentum with our expanded presence in the region.” Inside Terminus Technologies Terminus’ origin story was in motorsport, specifically in developing technology to track vehicles at high speeds. The smart cities-focused startup officially launched in 2020. “We discovered that if we could accurately track cars moving at 200 mph, we could definitely apply that technology to make cities smarter,” Ward told Hypepotamus. “While many industries were struggling in 2020, the smart cities sector was experiencing significant growth, fueled by demand for public services & efficient resource management, creating a perfect opportunity for innovation. The Smart Cities sector remains Terminus’ main focus but we have also been approached about and are developing our alternative applications for a range of sectors from Shipping, Rail, Manufacturing, [and] Security.” Through a combination of AI, smart cameras, and LIDAR sensors, Terminus works with cities and municipalities to bring them the crucial data they need to create safer, more livable, and constituent-friendly cities. Terminus Technologies’ units are “fully Made In The USA compliant,” Ward told Hypepotamus, making the headquarters move to the US more strategic for scaling domestic production. “Terminus is currently tracking over 100 different metrics with its hardware platform and perception software, from urban flow to vehicle demographics. Our multi-sensor fusion approach allows us to create a comprehensive data model that provides insights previously impossible to capture. This means we can help cities with everything from optimizing traffic management to precisely tracking environmental impact — all with a unified system,” Ward added. —
